The reason why Squirrels never make it across the street.
I never obey traffic signs as a pedestrian. It's just not something I do. I cross when there are no cars coming my way, and that's my street-crossing philosophy. But I did something quite squirrel-like this weekend, I was crossing a busy street when all of a sudden, a crazy taxi appeared on my path racing down the street heading straight for me!!! I did a little hop and a little scream ("ah!") and decided to run back to the side walk. (Idiotically, it was in the direction where the crazy taxi and I will cross paths.) Luckliy, my friend grabbed me just in time and dragged me across the street. "Why would you run backwards when you were closer to the other side?"
To which I responded, "I was having a squirrel day!" hehe...and now I understand why squirrels always run backwards when they see a car coming. Going back to where you came from seems the safer route! I experienced it myself, and the mystery has been solved. Squirrels don't mean to run towards the car, it's just silly squirrel instinct.
~*Have a good nite everyone*~
